I remember the very first day that I wanted to start blogging. It was a frightening thought of trying to setup up my very first blog because I didn’t know where to start or what blogging platform I should use.
After doing countless hours of research and many long weekend hours, I finally had my blog setup in THREE WEEKS.
Yes, it took me 3 freakin’ weeks to have my blog up and running. (I almost wanted to give up before I even started.)
Luckily for you, I have made this process SUPER simple and you will be able to start your blog in literally under 10 minutes.
Boy, I wish I would of had this tutorial when I first started, it would of saved lots of money on my Starbucks bingeing and all of the frustration and anxiety that I’ve experienced.
Today, you will learn how to start a blog and how blogging has changed my life forever by allowing me to spend more time with my family and earn a full time income while working at home.
I don’t know about you, but this is truly PRICELESS for me.
The good thing for you is that it only cost a few dollars per month to get started. Below, I have included discounted pricing that I personally negotiated with Bluehost, so that all of you can launch your blog for cheap and not have to spend a lot of money.
(You will also receive a free blog domain through my link too. Act quick though because I’m not sure how long these low prices will last! )
Click here to start a blog on WordPress, then use the tutorial below for the easy directions.
After trying out different hosting providers, I found that Bluehost was the best because they offer affordable hosting and their customer support is outstanding. (They will even walk you step-by-step through the process if you need a hand).
Bluehost is one of the top web hosting companies in 2018 and you can start your own blog with them for as low as $2.75 a month (this low price is through my link only)! Also, if you sign up using my link, then you will get your domain for free if you purchase a 12 month or longer hosting plan (a $15 value).
I highly recommend signing up for the 12 month hosting plan through Bluehost. It’s affordable and you can save a lot of money by signing up for at least 12 months. If you want a better deal, the best value would be purchasing a 36 month plan, as your monthly rate is much lower over the long run.
As I mentioned above, blogging has changed my life and it has allow me to earn over $10,000 per month over the past 3 years all while working from home and raising my son.
I hate to use this phase “If I can do it, anyone can do it”, but it is truly because it is easy if you stick to it and have the patience to build a blog that offers value to others.
Just thinking about being able to travel the world, working from home, and even taking you dream vacation without having to sacrifice penny pitching because you don’t have enough money to really enjoy yourself.
You can do this, so let’s get started on this journey together by growing and launching your first blog.
How to Start a WordPress Blog on Bluehost
1. Register Your Domain Name
You can click here to purchase a domain name and create a blog, then continue to follow the easy steps below.
This is the really fun part!
What do you want your brand name to be?
A domain name is your blog’s URL address, such as “MyEssentialOilBlog.com” or this blog, “MadeWithOils.com.” Since you chose Bluehost as your host, your domain name is free.
Choosing your domain will most likely be the hardest part of the entire blog setup. See, I told you this process was easy. You’ll want a name that’s easy to remember, describes your blog and is catchy.
If your blog will specifically be about essential oils, for example, you’ll probably want to include “oils” or “essential oils” in the domain name rather than just a generic name.
Once you’ve thought of your name, enter it into the box below shown on the screenshot to make sure it’s available. If it’s not, keep brainstorming.
Once you’ve picked your domain name, you’ll then be taken to the “Package Information” page, which allows you to pick and choose what features you want. None of the additional charges are necessary, so feel free to uncheck all of those boxes.
The only one you might want to keep is the “Domain Privacy Protection” to shield your personal information from the public.
2. Install WordPress on Bluehost.
Once you’ve registered and paid with Bluehost, it’s time to install WordPress. Most websites and blogs run on WordPress since it’s easy to install, easy to use and easy to customize.
To install WordPress, watch the video or follow the simple steps below!
Login to your Bluehost account and find the Website Builders section. Scroll down and click on the “WordPress” logo.
On the next page, click “Install” button as you will be doing it yourself.
Select the correct domain name (the one you just registered) and leave the box next to it blank
Check the box that you’ve read the terms and conditions and click “Install Now” button.
Once WordPress is installed, click “View Credentials” at the top right-hand corner. Write down your Admin URL, Username and Password and store them somewhere safe. You’ll need this information to login to your website.
To access your site, type the Admin URL into your address bar and enter in your username and password.
Congrats! That’s it. You are now ready to start blogging about your favorite essential oils and natural health topics.
3. Choosing a WordPress Theme
Steps 1-3 should take no more than 15 minutes, most likely less. Now, it’s time to play around with WordPress and learn the ins and outs of getting your blog started.
Under “Appearance” you can select “Themes” and choose a free theme for your site. You can play around with this as you don’t have to keep the first theme you choose. The best way to learn is to dive right in. If you have questions along the way, you can contact Bluehost or simply “Google” your question.
Eventually, you might want to pay for a theme or have a web designer create a custom theme for you, but you don’t need to worry about that just yet. Right now, all you need to focus on is creating great content to share with the world!
If you are looking for a premium theme, I highly recommend the framework this website runs on:
Genesis Framework – This is the same framework we are using here at Made With Oils. This offers a variety of different child themes to select from and all themes are responsive and mobile friendly. Google loves these!
