Benefits: Long, shiny hair begins with a healthy scalp, and castor oil works in a few different ways to treat the scalp.
First, it’s both antibacterial and anti-fungal, which helps to treat dandruff and scalp issues that can be inhibiting hair growth.
Second, it contains ricinoleic acid, which increases circulation to the scalp and helps to balance the pH, both of which will lead to more hair growth.
Rosemary oil is also our favorite essential oil for all hair types and helps to condition hair and stimulate growth. Note that rosemary may slightly darken hair over time if used frequently.
Tips and Tricks: After applying to your scalp, give yourself a 5 minute scalp massage. Not only does this feel great, but it also helps to dislodge flakes that may be clogging your pores and inhibiting hair growth.
It also brings blood flow to the area, which can help to promote hair growth.
Variations: Sub grapeseed oil for carrier oil of choice and rosemary oil for essential oil of choice.
How to Use: Using a dropper, evenly distribute a small amount of oil onto your scalp and massage in. Leave on for a few hours, or overnight before shampooing out (you may need to shampoo twice—which you should be doing anyway!
Castor oil is very thick, but the carrier oil helps to dilute it, and you’ll be surprised at how much oil is absorbed into your scalp. Use this as a weekly treatment.
