Oils for Snoring

Thyme Oil

Thyme is often used to promote relaxation, so it should come as no surprise that it is a great oil for people who are dealing with snoring.

As the oil works, your mind and body can relax and your throat muscles will not tense up or collapse.Once your body is in a relaxed state, the likelihood of snoring is greatly decreased and you will wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the next day.The best way to use thyme oil is to mix equal parts with a carrier oil since the oil is very strongly scented. About four drops of thyme oil and 4 drops of vegetable oil can be combined and applied to the bottom of your feet.If you are a tea drinker, try putting a few drops in your tea before bed or even try adding two or three drops to your humidifier.

As you are using this oil, you will notice your sleeping habits will increase and your skin will be clearer.

Sage Oil

Sage is used for reducing inflammation in the respiratory system and very useful when dealing with a sinus infection or cold. If you feel a cold or congestion coming on, sage oil is the best way to get relief and a better night’s sleep. It can help sooth all of your nasal passages which will make you snore less and sleep better. Sage oil can be used at night before you go to bed to help keep your snoring to a minimum or applied throughout the day to keep you feeling symptom free when a cold strikes. To use sage oil for snoring prevention, mix 5 drops of sage oil and one tablespoon of coconut oil and apply directly to the chest or neck before going to sleep. While you are sleeping your sinuses will be open and you will simultaneously be treating the underlying infection that might be causing the congestion in the first place.Do not use sage oil if you suffer from epilepsy or are pregnant.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is a favorite among oil users because of the number of different things it can help treat. Lavender has relaxing side effects that will help you sleep peacefully, longer and more soundly but it can also soothe cardiovascular problems that lead to snoring. Most people prefer to use lavender oil over any other oil for snoring prevention by applying the oil directly to their pillow before going to bed.Another way to use the oil is to apply 4-5 drops to the bottom of your feet, neck or chest. You can also diffuse it overnight for lasting effects throughout the night hours.

Chamomile Oil

Chamomile Oil for Snoring

Chamomile is from a small flower resembling a daisy and a popular choice of oil to add to hot tea. This relaxing oil mixed with tea will help you to sleep better and reduce the number of hours you spend tossing and turning overnight.Any medication prescribed to help treat snoring problems always have chamomile listed as an active ingredient, so diffusing or drinking this tea before going to sleep is bound to help improve your sleep and reduce your snoring.

Marjoram Oil

Marjoram is not among the most popular essential oils, but it is still highly sought after for people who struggle with snoring.

It is extracted from the marjoram plant leaves and has been known to help relax the mind and heal the body for years. This oil can be used to treat a number of different ailments including muscle pain, headaches, respiratory diseases that include asthma and bronchitis, as well as snoring. If you add a few drops of marjoram oil to your diffuser at night, your air passageways will be opened and your snoring will cease. If you are dealing with a sinus infection that is causing your snoring, this oil has antibacterial properties that will help to heal the underlying problem while allowing you to get a good night’s rest.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is one of the most popular oil choices and is found in a number of different products, most notably in tubes of toothpaste. The antibacterial properties found in this oil make it a popular choice for dental hygiene products.Peppermint oil is popular for treating headaches, but it can also help soothe the nasal passageways that directly cause snoring to occur.

As it is being diffused overnight, your sinuses will be opened and you will be able to sleep better. This oil can be applied directly to the sides of your nose, your neck, feet or chest, or you can add a few drops to your diffuser to work all night long.If you do not have a diffuser, but have access to a humidifier, try adding a few drops to it and allow the peppermint oil to soothe your breathing and keep you asleep all night long.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help to calm down the sinuses when dealing with a cold or other mucus-producing infection.

When using this oil, you will experience immediate results as the mucus dries up.If you are a snoring person, this oil can help to keep your air passages clear all night long and you will feel much better as the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties go to work. The suggested use for this oil is to apply a few drops to your diffuser and run it all night long, but if you are needing quicker results, apply a few drops to a teaspoon of coconut oil and rub it along your top lip before you go to sleep.

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus Oil for Snoring

Eucalyptus oil is often used to treat respiratory issues such as asthma, sinus infections, bronchitis, and snoring. Since snoring is often a close companion of sinus and respiratory infections, using eucalyptus oil will help to treat this pesky symptom.Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your diffuser will help to open your airway as well as promote a good night of sleep. For quick results, apply a few drops to a hot towel and breathe in the steam. The best way to allow this oil to work is by inhaling it directly. You can either add oil to your hot shower and breathe in the steam or boil water on the stove with a few drops in it.

If you diffuse it overnight, it is more likely to prevent snoring.

Cedarwood Oil

Cedarwood oil helps to keep your mind clear, open your airways and helps you to sleep better overnight.

Cedarwood is best when mixed with other oils such as lavender or thyme and applied directly to the neck, feet, chest, or wrists before you go to bed.The ingredients in cedarwood oil work all night to keep your body from the desire to snore and helps you to stay asleep longer without waking up due to sinus issues.Cedarwood does not need to be diffused, but rather mixed with other oils or a carrier oil and applied directly to the body.

This oil is often helpful in young adults who have trouble staying asleep as well as elderly people dealing with symptoms of dementia.

Geranium Oil

Geraniums are flowers found all over the world but specific kinds of these flowers, namely those found in South Africa, have been found to contain oil that when extracted is able to help treat symptoms associated with bronchitis.

Geranium oil has been known to help young children find relief when suffering from a sore throat. As most of these oils, the geranium oil works to open your breathing passageways and prevents snoring.

Congestion and the closely related problem of snoring can be kicked to the curb when geranium oil is diffused or applied to the neck or feet before going to bed.

Pine Oil

Pine Oil for Snoring

This oil keeps you from snoring and allows you to enjoy a longer period of sleep. For maximum results, diffuse pine oil overnight or add to your bath or shower before going to sleep.

Olive Oil

Olive oil is not an oil you would typically think of when trying to prevent snoring because it is most often found in cooking and seasoning.

Many cosmetics, however, use olive oil as an active ingredient in beauty products.Several people have found that olive oil has other health benefits as well. People who suffer from sleep apnea often have a problem with excessive snoring and are advised to consume olive oil in their weight loss efforts.Olive oil has properties that help you to lose weight quickly but also can help you to stay positive and have a better mood. Most oils on this list are most effective when diffused, but olive oil is an exception to this rule. Cooking and consuming this oil are the best ways to incorporate it into your diet and start experiencing relief from snoring as soon as possible.

Lemon Oil

Lemon Oil for Snoring

Lemons are a delicious zesty fruit that can add a lot of flavor to a number of foods we consume on a daily basis.

Most often, the part of the lemon that is used is the seeds and the interior juicy part. The one part of the lemon that we most often throw away is the most beneficial part of the whole fruit — the peel!

Lemon essential oil is extracted from the peel of lemons and has several benefits including skin and hair care as well as relieving stress.Due to the antidepressant properties found in lemon essential oil, diffusing it at night can help you to sleep better and stay asleep longer.
